Invisalign® Teen is an innovative orthodontic treatment that works the same as Invisalign® for adults.

Simple & Important Cleaning Tips

Cleaning Tips for Invisalign® Teen

At Joosse Family Orthodontics, we want you to get the best results from treatment with Invisalign® Teen and that is why we offer a few simple, but important cleaning tips for teens using Invisalign® to straighten their smile. Following these tips will help keep your aligners in excellent condition as well as help them retain their translucency and retain their fit.

Invisalign® teen

Rinse your aligners as soon as you remove them from your mouth. This will help prevent saliva from drying and hardening onto the aligner and it will also reduce the bacteria that has accumulated in the aligner.

You can soak your Invisalign® Teen aligners in mild soapy cool water or retainer cleaner. This will help thoroughly clean the aligners and keep them in good condition. Remember to keep the water cool as warm or hot water can warp the special Smarttrack® material.

Remember to gently brush aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any dried saliva and bacteria. Toothpaste is too abrasive and may mark the finish of the aligner causing it to appear cloudy.

Make sure to place clean aligners on clean teeth and that includes after snacking. Small food particles can alter the fit of your Invisalign clear aligner and this means it will not work as it should. It is best to brush your teeth before placing aligners back in your mouth so you can get the most benefit from them.

What Parents Should Know

Compliance Is Key

At the beginning of the treatment, there will be an adjustment period. Your teen may complain about increased saliva production or speak with a slight lisp at first. These are not major, life-altering side effects but may seem like it to a teen. Your teen may resist wearing the aligners because of this so make certain to assure them that these annoyances will go away. In the end, the beautiful smile they’ll get will make it all worthwhile.
