  1. It helps to provide better treatment results
  2. It increases treatment efficiency, which means treatment takes less time
  3. It saves time

At Joosse Family Orthodontics in Williamsburg, VA, we understand that your time is valuable, and that’s why we have our own remote orthodontic monitoring system. JFO On The Go uses the Grin app to allow you to share quick videos of your teeth from wherever you are. This technology is amazing, and Dr. Joosse has cited remote orthodontic monitoring as the best advancement in orthodontics in the last 10 years!

How Does JFO On The Go Work?

The process is simple and completely guided by the JFO team. It’s best to download the Grin app before your first appointment, since sometimes this requires Apple ID or parental permission. At your first appointment the JFO team will connect you to the Grin platform and then teach you how to use the Grin Scope with your smartphone. Then, at scheduled intervals (usually every 7 days), you will send us short videos of your teeth for review. Dr. Joosse and his team review the “scans” and provide feedback on your treatment.

Better Treatment Results

Simply put, Dr. Joosse wouldn’t be using remote orthodontic monitoring if it didn’t provide better treatment results. So, how does it happen? When your scan comes in, Dr. Joosse and his team view the scans on large computer monitors, often 24-inch and larger. Dr. Joosse likes to tell his patients: “looking at your mouth on a large computer monitor is BETTER than looking in your actual mouth!” The level of detail seen through the scans is incredible. The attention to detail is what accounts for better results.

More Efficient Treatment

One of the biggest benefits of JFO On The Go is that it can help make treatment more efficient, which may lead to shorter treatment times.

Every patient is different. While teeth move through the same biological process, the RATE of tooth movement varies based on factors like age, metabolism, medications and other individual differences. Another important factor is patient compliance. Invisalign aligners work best when they’re worn at least 22 hours a day, and inconsistent wear can slow progress or cause treatment to fall off track.

Before remote orthodontic monitoring, Dr. Joosse and his team typically saw patients every 10 weeks. While many visits confirmed everything was progressing as planned, others revealed small issues that had developed over time. Without more frequent check-ins, it was difficult to know exactly when those changes occurred or whether treatment would correct itself.

With JFO On The Go, Dr. Joosse and his team can identify problems much sooner, provide guidance through the app and determine when an in-office visit is truly needed. By catching small issues before they become bigger delays, keeping patients connected and allowing questions to be answered between appointments, remote orthodontic monitoring helps keep treatment moving efficiently and can save patients months of treatment time.

Fewer Visits Without Losing Personalized Care

One of JFO On The Go’s biggest benefits is the ability to reduce unnecessary office visits. In-office appointments mean missing school, adjusting work schedules, or taking time away from other responsibilities. With remote orthodontic monitoring, many progress checks can be handled more efficiently while still keeping patients connected with our team.

While a traditional in-office visit is often 30 minutes, most patients underestimate how much time this actually takes from their day. Imagine you are the parent of a teen in treatment. You leave work, drive 15 minutes (conservatively) to pick up your child, then drive another 15 minutes to our office, have your 30 minute visit and then do the same commute in reverse. That 30 minute visit just took an hour and a half, not to mention the interruption from whatever you were doing. With the remote orthodontic monitoring offered by JFO On The Go, patients save at least 6 in-office visits. Six in-office visits multiplied by 1.5 hours is 9 hours of time saved! What could you do with 9 extra hours of time?

Reducing appointments and gaining time is great, but not if it sacrifices the attention you deserve when going through treatment. The great thing about remote monitoring is patients receive MORE of the same personalized attention they expect from Dr. Joosse and his team. This is because our patients send scans weekly for review. To contrast that with the old JFO system, a patient now gets 10 touchpoints for every one they used to get before JFO On The Go. The goal of remote orthodontic monitoring is to make care feel more connected, not less personal.
